Brahms German Requiem

Date:
Sun, 23/07/2017 - 2:00pm - 4:30pm

Brahms’ greatest and most frequently performed choral work, completed in 1866, has proved to be universally popular.

The Willoughby Symphony Choir, one of the finest community choirs in Australia, will present this work in a spine-tingling and exciting performance with a large orchestra and soloists, under the baton of Peter Ellis.

The work does not follow the traditional text and form of the Requiem Mass but instead has been set to selected passages from the Lutheran Bible. Hopes, fears and resurrection are emphasised rather than church-based spirituality, faith and judgement.

Wed, 26/04/2017 (All day) - Wed, 28/06/2017 (All day)

THE SPOOKY MEN’S CHORALE

Drop deadpan beautiful mansinging that might well change your life!

“Grown-up entertainment in the
best, most infantile way”
Daily Telegraph (UK)

“Sheer musical excellence”
Sydney Morning Herald

The Spooky Men’s Chorale, de facto archdeacons of low frequency vocal
mayhem, have been gleefully smashing up and reassembling the world of
men’s singing since 2001.

Burdened by a vast, lovable incomprehension and dignified with cavernous vocal
chords, The Spooky Men’s Chorale employ a devastating combination of beauty

I Heard a Byrd Sing

Date:
Sun, 20/11/2016 - 3:00pm

“Early as I me walked upon a May morning, I heard a Byrd sing.” Thus wrote composer Thomas Morley, a student of William Byrd‘s and the inspiration for this musical flight of fancy. From Stephen Leek‘s Black Swan to Lennon and McCartney‘s BlackBird, from Johnny Mercer‘s Skylarks to Agnes Obel‘s Sparrows, from Regina Spektor‘s Two Birds to Sally Whitwell‘s A Hundred Thousand Birds, this tribute to our feathered friends culminates in the most melodious bird of all, William Byrd, and a pinnacle of polyphony, his Mass for Five Voices.
