Visionaries and Revolutionaries
A concert of works by leading edge choral composers who paved the way from the Renaissance into the Baroque

When: Sunday 28 May 2017, 5:00pm
Where: St Peter Chanel Church, Futuna St, Hunters Hill
How much: Adults $30.00, Concession $25.00

2017 is the 450th anniversary year of Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), the highly revered Venetian Renaissance composer who heard beyond what others could, and left an extraordinary canon of madrigals and sacred music. The Joubert Singers will present the master’s Beatus Vir, a melodious choral work in six vocal parts with obbligato violins and theorbo.

The Joubert Singers are joined in concert by guest artists Camerata Antica, a specialist early music ensemble led by cornet player Matthew Manchester and soprano Anna Sandström. They will perform a range of instrumental and vocal works from the Renaissance on period style instruments.

The English Renaissance visionary, Thomas Tallis (1503-1685) is represented with his serene Mass for Four Voices, and the greatest of Baroque composers, Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) with selections from Bach’s motet Jesu, meine Freude.

The concert will be held at 5:00pm at St Peter Chanel Church, Futuna St, Hunters Hill (nearest cross street is Crescent St off Woolwich Rd) on Sunday 28 May.

The Joubert Singers are Hunters Hill’s own community choir. They perform sacred and secular music from around the world, with their Artistic Director, Rachelle Elliott, who specialises in Nordic and Baltic repertoire, with particular interest in the music of First Nations, and working with composers in presenting new choral music.

Admission $30, Concession $25 (Under 16s, pensioners, seniors)
