Sydney University Madrigal Society (MADS)

The Sydney University Madrigal Society is a small acappella choir. We focus on singing madrigals - essentially the pop music of the Renaissance and early Baroque period - secular, polyphonic, and unaccompanied. Imagine cheeky jokes and bad innuendos, except sung in harmony and with a straight face, if you can keep one. Every year we hold two concerts, usually in May and in October, and work hard on our repertoire of madrigals in rehearsals.

If you’d like to sing with us, we’re an enthusiastic bunch and would love to have you! We meet weekly for a two hour rehearsal from 5-7pm on Tuesday evenings, which as of March 2018 are in Room 419 on level 4 of the Seymour Centre (check with us in advance just to be sure of venue).

2018: The first rehearsal will be on March 6th, and we'll start working towards our May concert, which will have a focus on queer Renaissance history.

MADS is a non-audition choir, although some knowledge of music (especially sight-reading) would be helpful. Come along and see how the rehearsals work for you, ask as many questions as you'd like.

If you can’t join us at rehearsals, but would like to hear about our twice-yearly concerts, you can sign up for our audience mailing list on our website.
